Thank you to the four people who came together as a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) to learn about and chart (define) the future of this new SIG: Asma, Scott , Katharine, and Mike. There were a few others who expressed interest but could not.
Overall result: Through the collaborative conversation to chart a course for this new SIG, we gained new perspectives from each other about the SIG topic and committed to continue our sharing and learning with each other.
Here are our thoughts on the SIG's Mission, Principles, Goals, Strategic directions, and Tactical actions.
Mission (why this SIG exists): ○ Make invisible CLC concepts visible ○ Promote CLC by using CLC to achieve results ○ Help CLC members explore CLC methodologies by actively participating in the CLC SIG community
Principles (how the SIG and its members will behave) ○ Collegiality ○ Respect ○ Build trust ○ Patience ○ Dialogue ○ Allow divergent conversation ○ Walk our talk (i.e. use our site's web 2.0 tools) ○ Reach out, share, and learn from others
Goals / Results (what the SIG hopes to achieve) ○ Promote CLC methodologies: Make the invisible more visible ○ Achieve worthy goals through team projects that demonstrate the use of CLC methods. Achieving the goals will demonstrate the value of CLC. ○ Share information about CLC: A list of reference books, and articles to increase the knowledge of the CLC community ○ Be a support community to people who are leading their own CLC initiatives ○ Explore CLC methodologies by sponsoring events to help community members learn and apply them to their own initiatives. ○ Demonstrate CLC methods to show different perspective on learning ○ Balance "Push" and "Pull" learning methods
Long term Strategic directions (how) ○ Be leaders in the usage of the chapter's web 2.0 tools. Wiki to post the SIG leanings, Discussions to spark informal sharing and learning. ○ Use other web 2.0 tools i.e. Scott will set up a private CLC Twitter ○ Experiential learning projects & events will highlight demonstration of CLC methods by community members to other community members who will learn experientially. ○ Create a "Learn-scape" for sharing thoughts about the numerous questions posed at the Oct.2 bar camp ○ Learn CLC methods from Team projects (see above) ○ Host regular focus topics for discussion
Short-term Tactical Actions (how) ○ Mike asked for someone to else to continue as CLC SIG "facilitator" so he can focus on a new role in the chapter (to be announced later) § Scott volunteered to continue facilitating the CLC SIG. □ Scott will invite people to the next event. □ Mike can host the next "gathering" of the SIG community (as long as there is no fee charged). ○ Mike will post notes of the meeting on the chapter wiki. § Scott will edit the notes
Our thoughts shared about CLCs: ○ Learning from interacting ○ Hard to get CLCs going ○ Author: Parker Palmer: Honest sharing, non-critical listening so ideas can grow ○ Dialogue: openness, curiousity ○ Relationship to Business Innovation ○ Author Jay Cross: Informal Learning, Learn-scaping ○ Pull vs. Push ○ JIT learning ○ CLC allows deeper learning ○ Ideas can be built upon ○ People want to share ○ Walk our talk
